Location
This photo was taken in Lower Antelope Canyon Arizona. It is a magical place with endless lines and shape to photograph.Time
This image has been an eye opener for me as a Photographer. It was taken mid morning after I spent sunrise at horseshoe bend. I lagged behind the tour to set up this shot looking out through the top of the canyon.Lighting
The lighting in this image is spectacular in that every line and texture of the canyon walls are picked up by the sunlight scraping by at an angle. The morning light is beautiful here as it peaks over the openings of the canyon.Equipment
I used a Canon 5DMK III with a Canon 16-35mm 2.8 II.Inspiration
I was inspired to make this photograph from seeing many of my favorite photographers get amazing images in this canyon such as, Michael Shainblum and Travis Burke. I wanted to explore this canyon and find a different angle that no one else has seen as much. I was inspired by the views looking up towards the sky as I was walking the trail. You can truly see the shape in this place and it is impossible not to be inspired as you walk through this wonderful place.Editing
My post production of this image had to do with the lighting situation in the canyon. The light on the inside was around 3-4 stops darker than the light of the outside. I composed my image and made a handful of bracketed exposures. I then brought these images into Lightroom for my color enhancements. After Lightroom, I chose the two image that I wished to put together and brought them into photoshop, where I masked in a sky that had detail. After a few more color adjustments to the final image, I completed this image. In my camera bag
As a photographer who travels on the road, I need to have a well versed camera bag. I like to have equipment that can get the job done in any situation. I always have my 5D MK III with three lenses. I use the Canon 16-35mm 2.8 II, 24-70mm 2.8 II, and 70-200mm IS II. These lenses are best and can get me whatever shot I am looking for. Additionally, I always carry a speedlite (600ex) and Pocket Wizards for portraits. I also carry a graduated filter set from LEE Filters for my wide angle lenses and a circuler polarizer for my 70-200mm. As far as a tripod, I usually carry a Manfrotto Befree. It is light weight and easy to use. The other items in my bag are just extra batteries and tools like a Leatherman.Feedback
My advice for other photographers to capture something similar, is to be as inspired as possible. I get most of my drive and passion from seeing what other people are doing and thats how I am able to seek better images. In addition to that, the more shooting the better for the creative process. Always shoot and create something everyday.
