Behind The Lens

Location
I shot this image in my hometown near a lake in Cwmtillery, South Wales.
Time
I took this shot around 4pm, it was a cold January day and the light was stunning.
Lighting
I really wanted the shell to be backlit so I waited until the sun had gone down enough to create beautiful bokeh and to illuminate the shell.
Equipment
This image was shot with a nikon d5200 and a nikon 105mm 2.8 macro lens.
Inspiration
My 5 year old son found this empty snail shell while we were out for a walk, I noticed how the light shone through it while put up to the sun. I wanted to create a backlit shot of the shell to show it's emptiness and have loads of bokeh in the background.
Editing
I warmed up the image to really show off the golden tones. Everything else was minimal editing.
In my camera bag
I have my nikon d750 and I always take all of my lenses which are a Nikon 105mm 2.8, Tamron 24-70 2.8 and a sigma 50mm 1.4 art lens. I always take at least two spare batteries.
Feedback
Always wait until the light is right, you don't want a flat image. For an image like this you want your camera as low to the ground as possible so be prepared to get wet knees. I always take a water spray bottle with me for my macro work, it will imitate that beautiful morning dew look.
