Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken in the Valley Stream park. I was walking along a path that led over a bridge and seen this beautiful view, so I snapped the shot.

Time

I took the photo in late afternoon on a fall day.

Lighting

The lighting was all natural and the photo wasn't retouched. The sunlight was behind me to my left and highlighted both the shadows and colors of the foilage.

Equipment

I used my Canon 20D with a Tamron 18-200mm lens. The only filter that I had on at the time was my Promaster Digital UV filter.

Inspiration

I am an avid hiker and love nature. I am often out walking in the parks, shore, or mountains looking for that beauty that nature gives us in our lives, but many people are too busy to stop to look at. I loved the serenity and colors that I found while walking that day. When I came to this point, I noticed the colors, light, and shade making a beautiful scene. I knew I was in the right place at the right time and snapped the shot.

Editing

There was no post-processing needed in the shot, except very little cropping of the image.

In my camera bag

I carry my Canon 5D, Tamron 18-200mm lens, Canon 50mm lens, and 100mm lens. I also have a variety of filters, canon flash, additional flash cards, my tripod, and various little items to help clean my equipment in the field.

Feedback

I was once told that when you're out walking or traveling and see a beautiful scene to take the shot. Then when you're done with that one to turn around and you may see one that's even more beautiful. In other words, don't get too focused on one shot you have in mind. If you do, you may miss the one that is right in front of you that your mind isn't looking for. Enjoy and have fun with your photography. Take the photos of the things that make you happy and you'll never be disappointed.
