Location
This was taken in Urasoe City, Okinawa. The bird in this composite is a Osprey which is a seasonal visitor to our area and usually perches high above the Aja River near where my wife and I live.Time
Because this is a composite there are two pictures involved the Osprey perched high on an antenna on the top of an eleven story city apartment complex on the Naha City side of the river. This Osprey picture was taken in the morning probably around 7:00 AM as that is the time they are most active as the river usually run at high tide about that time. The full moon was of course taken in evening hours probably around 7:30 to 9:00 P.M. The river always runs higher during a full moon and lots of larger fish swim up the river from the ocean on the Eastern side of the Island.Lighting
Lighting was all natural as when my wife and I take our morning walks down the Aja River I carry only one of my zoom lens setups and not much else. The same is true of the night moon shot, we live in a fairly well lit apartment complex and all I did was take my Fuji S1 super zoom and set the exposure as low as I could go, so there as no lighting other than street light and the moon itself.Equipment
The Osprey was shot with an older Fuji X-S1 super zoom (24-624mm 26x) and the moon was a Fuji S1 (24-1200mm 50x). In both instance I used digital zoom. There was no other equipment involved as both cameras have very good stabilization built into their lens and usually unless it's a slow shutter speed situation I don't use a tripod.Inspiration
Fun is my inspiration for any shot I take. I am retired and this is my way to relax and also to capture some of the beauty of living in a sub-tropical climate. I try not to get to overly religious about my hobby and follow all the good shooter rules it's all about the shot and the editing both of which I enjoy.Editing
I did the usual post-processing the only extra was the merging of the two pictures. I used Smart Photo Editor which makes composites very easy to accomplish. It's much cheaper that other photo editing software that's out there and they are continuously upgrading and adding new stuff, I like it.In my camera bag
I travel light. I have three Fuji X cameras and depending if I'm strolling the streets and alleys of Okinawa or doing nature shots I work light. I always carry extra batteries and not much more. I have a small bag that I keep all my medical stuff in (I'm a hybrid I have a pacemaker) and it it I carry an older X100 in case I need a backup. I prefer my X-E1 if I'm on the streets and carry my X-S1 or S1 if I'm prowling the rivers or literally jungles Okinawa has to offer.Feedback
The two shots that made this picture were very simple. The bird shot requires a little more patience especially if your waiting to catch the osprey in flight and the moon depending on the cloud cover is just wait until it gets high enough in the sky to get the shot you want. sometimes here on an island surrounded by ocean we have to wait for just the right time due to the cloud cover.
