My beautiful model Vaida with a handmade 'blind' mask covered in snowflakes. The image was taken a week ago in the cold winter sunshine.
Colour adjustments and frequency separation to make the skin look perfect.
The mask was made by me and MUA and styling is also by me.

Location
This photo was taken in the little throughway between my house and my neighbours. At certain times of day it catches the light just perfectly.Time
Late morning. I wanted a lot of light, however, it was taken in early winter so the light was nice and white but not too harsh.Lighting
Natural light. I love natural light because it doesn't distort colours. I try and take my images just before midday when there is a lot of light but not so much that I get harsh shadows.Equipment
Camera and tripod. No gadgets.Inspiration
The fairy tale of the Snow Queen. I have a great love for fairy tales and many of my shoots are based on fairy tales.Editing
Only a little high-res retouching as the glitter that I used on her face clumped in a few places, and a few colour adjustments to make it look 'cold' and ethereal. In my camera bag
My canon, a tripod, and a couple of lenses, unless I plan to shoot for something specific where I need other lenses.Feedback
Plan the shoot. Mine depends on the props (mask, handmade from papermache and oven-clay with snowflakes, white wig, and white bridal veil) and the makeup (white with opalescent glitter applied). The expression of the model (the haughty, cold, arrogant mouth in this case) is important so take your time to get that right so it says what you want to say. With fairy tale shoots in particular there is always a message that tells the story and with a close crop like this there is very little to tell the story with so it has to be spot on.
