great picture. I wish we had found a flatter piece as this to walk on , where we went it was all steps !!!! Or is this just an optical illusion ?

Thank you for the compliment. No, it's not an illusion, you get what you see. Badaling is very steep to walk on, but this very place is comparatively flat. Another section of the Great Wall, called Mutianyu, is way more comfortable to walk on.

Great shot - you must have been early to see it virtually empty, or you walked aways to get clear of them :-) It felt incredible to just be there & see how extensive it was :-) this double section is unusual, I've never seen a photo of it before :-)

Thanks. I took the picture at around 5 p.m. when the crowds were long gone. I guess the Wall builders made sure to follow the ridge curves to make it difficult for Mongols to get over it, hence such a double section.
