Location
I took this photo at Milford Sound, New Zealand. It's located on the westcoast of the southern island and is one of my favorite spots I visited until now :)Time
You can't see it...but it's taken at sunset. I was dreaming of some beautiful colors - and all I got was rain. Rain in the morning, rain in the afternoon, rain in the evening. But well, I took my raincoat and walked over those slippery rocks and was lucky - the rain stopped for some minutes and I was able to take this picture.Lighting
No, not really :DEquipment
I used my Canon 60D and a Tokina 12-24mm F4 on a tripod. And waterproofed shoes, pants and jackets ;)Inspiration
I knew a lot of pictures from this spot and thought about a long exposure at sunset, with beautiful colored clouds and the mountains reflected in the water. But like often...I got a completely different result. To many clouds, to less light and no water in the foreground, just those stones overgrown with moss.Editing
Like always, I did the post-processing in ACR and Photoshop. To edit my pictures, I use techniques like luminosity masks and add-ons like Nik Color Efex. In this case, I didn't have to do a lot of editing. I added in Color Efex the filters "Glamour Glow" and "Tonal Contrast", that's where the glow in the foreground comes from. I also added a slight vignette with the filter "Darken/Lighten Center".In my camera bag
Well, I don't own a lot of equipment. I just have my awesome backpack from Lowepro and in it is my Canon 60D, a Tokina 12-24 f4, a Tamron 17-50 f2.8 and two cheap Haida ND-Filters. Would love to work with a fullframe camera but as you can see...it's not always necessary to have great gear to take nice shots!Feedback
To get a similiar shot, you need a lot of clouds and low tide, that's all. Oh, and a light - I nearly got lost on my way back, it's a really dark area and it's no fun to walk over those stones. And I give you another advice: just visit New Zealand at all. It's such a wonderful country, with beautiful landscapes and really kind people. Travel around with a campervan, take your time, go out at sunrise and sunset...and you'll see awesome places and get great photos :)
