Behind The Lens

Location
I took this photo while doing a Workaway right at the start of autumn in a small town in Denmark named Nyborg. More specifically taken at the Glorup Manor. Since the late 1800s this manor has become a public park that is well kept by the owners. This pathway seen in the picture was one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen in my entire life. It's hard to see in the photo, but at the end there is a beautiful state of a woman with her arm extended. Magical place that I would recommend to anyone in a heart beat.
Time
This was taken just before sunset. The sun would dip just below the horizon at the end of the path way, and I really wanted to capture the light as it would peek through the tree line.
Lighting
I really wanted to show the expansive tree line, and the beautiful colors of an approaching autumn. The entire scene could bring a tear to your eye. I experimented with different lenses, apertures, and focal lengths, as I attempted to capture the quiet sunset through the lines of trees.
Equipment
I was using a Nikon D810, with a Nikkor 70-200 VR II. I believe I had -1 exposure compensation to bring out the drama a bit, but other than that no other equipment was used.
Inspiration
After a recommendation from my host family to visit Glorup Manor, I decided to take a short bike ride to give it a look. This exact spot and time of year was where my host family got married. In this moment, I almost felt like I was there. I could almost see the smiles, and the beautiful white dress dragging along through the leaves. It really captures you.
Editing
There were minor adjustments, but nothing too serious. Mainly just bringing up the saturation a very tiny bit to match what I saw and felt. I was lucky enough to capture a scene that really didn't need too much post-processing.
In my camera bag
I usually carry around a Nikon D810, a Nikkor 70-200 VRII, a Tamron 15-30 VR, a SB-700 Flash, and a non brand tripod (Looking to replace this soon :) )
Feedback
Listen to those around you, and be willing to take adventures. Often the locals know all the best places, do your best not to discount them just because they may not be a photographer themselves. Also be willing to get your hands dirty, your feet wet, and traverse in to the unknown. This photo would have never happened if I hadn't decided to walk/bike/hitchhike my way around Europe for a few months with my wife. It was a life changing experience, and I would have never had it any other way.
