Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken at Scripps Pier, San Diego, CA. Which is close to UC San Deigo

Time

I was visiting San Diego on a business trip, I always wanted to shoot this pier. However I did not have time to visit during sunset/Surise, this was pretty much midday. Still wanted to try some long exposure shot. I don't think I used any ND filter, still managed to capture some silky waves with long exposure

Lighting

Not the best lighting I wanted, since I have seen really great sunset pictures at this location. However I had to make the best of my visit, ended up shooting long exposure during the day to make this image.

Equipment

Used Nikon D750, 28-300mm lens Exif: ƒ/22 1/8 300mm ISO100

Inspiration

Visited Peter Lik's Gallery in La Jolla, CA. This image is no match to his Scripps Pier image. After seeing his image which was shot during sun set, I always wanted to visit this place to shoot. Someday I get to go back there shoot a sunset image.

Editing

Processed in Photomatix pro, this is a bracketed image, combined as HDR using Photomatix Pro.

In my camera bag

This was shot in 2015. Currently I have Nikon D850, Nikon 24-70mm, Nikon 85mm, 11-16mm Tokina

Feedback

If you are a local, check the weather, go on a day where you can expect a great sunset. This is a great place to shoot sunset. I have seen some spectacular images at this location. Unfortunately I was a visitor, can't control the weather during my visit!
