This photo was taken in Sørfjorden, an arm of the Hardangerfjord in Norway. Thats on the Norwegian west coast. This is taken in Ullensvang.Time
This was taken 28th december at 15:10 when the sun was about to set. I have seen this scenery many times, but without the opertunity to stop and take a picture. But this, day, finally, I had all the time in the world.Lighting
Mother nature more or less took charge to light the scenery for me. The setting sun during the Norwegian winter is often magic. The main issue here was that the mountain side was in the shade, and got too dark.Equipment
This is a panorama of nine vertical shots. I used a Benero Tripod with a ball head, which is not the propper head for a panorama shot. The camera was a Canon 6D with a Canon 16 - 35 f/4 L. Also a remote trigger.Inspiration
Hardanger and Norway is packed of really good scenery. I work in Hardanger as a paramedic and normally I don't have the time to stop. But this day I was in the neighborhood doing a newborn photoshoot. I saw this developing when I was done. There's a lot of spots in Hardanger that I want to shoot, at day, dusk, dawn and night time, at all four seasons. It's just like Lofoten area, you can't crow tired of it. Also I'm driven by being the best... tough I'm fare from it. I see a lot of amazing landscape photo's out there. I gues others skills are my main inspiration... to always learn and get better at what I do.Editing
Yes, I did some post processing. The original, does not look bad. But it lacked something. The shade on the mountains was also an issue. In Lightroom I made three copies of the merged image. I made them with an ev spacing of -2, 0 and +2 and gave them a quick treatment in Photomatix pro. Back in Lightroom I theaked the whitebalance in the sky ats the whole image had the same exposure. Also the clouds were a bit flat, they are enchanced with a clarity filter and burn in photoshop.In my camera bag
That depends. If I'm out for the northern lights, its just my 6d, remote trigger, a samyang 14mm and a tripod. But I often pack a 60D with a canon 70 - 200 2,8 L ii along with my 6d, my wide angle and from now a canon 100mm 2,8 L macro (my newest adition). If I have to travel light I only bring a 6d with a 24 - 105 L. Also I have some Lee filters that I love to use as I'm a sucker for long exposure. And coffee... It's a must hehe.Feedback
It's all about the light. I use a lot of time scouting for the location. Also I google the location to try to take a different picture from what others have taken before me. Google maps / earth is helpfull sometimes. Ad something as a foreground as a basic rule. However, I sometimes disregard that rule.
