On our first wedding anniversary, my husband and I visited Boldt Castle. We returned on our 7th wedding anniversary to see the progress that had been made on the castle’s restoration but we also visited Singer Castle, something we had missed in our first visit. Singer Castle was as beautiful as we had hoped and when the tour made its way around the back of the castle I took this photo. Out of all the photos I took that day this was my favourite because it really showcased the beauty of the great dining hall. I hope to visit again and explore the castle's secret passageways, something Singer is well known for.

Location
This photo was taken on Dark Island in the Thousand Islands during a day trip down the St. Lawrence.Time
It was late in the afternoon.Lighting
The front of the Castle left me a bit disappointed due to it's incredibly touristy look and the light very flat. However, when we walked around to the back of the castle I fell in love with the light coming through the windows of the Grand Dining hall.Equipment
When I took this photo I was carrying my Nikon D7100. These days though I carry my Nikon D750 or my Nikon D4. My go to lens is my 24-70.Inspiration
At the time I was thinking how much I wish I could live in such a beautiful place, as the castle is know for its secret passage ways. Can you imagine living in such a place as a child?Editing
While the light was great some work was needed correct the exposure for the sky and the castle. There was also a very sad looking BBQ sitting at the back that had to go along with some caution tape.In my camera bag
I always pack my Nikon D750, 24-70mm, 50mm, pocket wizards, my Nikon SB900 and a flash disk. I try to stay light and only taken what I think I will need for where I am going. My flash and triggers always come with me because there are so many wonderful things you can do with just one flash.Feedback
Patience is key I think as well as a keen eye. Try different angles, don't be afraid to get dirty and always take your camera. Sometimes what you are looking at looks better from the side or the back. Consider the details and the lighting. Be prepared, you never know when a good image will come along.
