Location
This photo was taken on the Brooklyn Bridge in December of 2015, Manhattan is to my back, the lens is facing towards Brooklyn, NY.Time
I went to visit a friend that lived in an apartment in Brooklyn. I brought all my photo gear with the intention of capturing Manhattan during the Christmas season. After walking through the crowds in Manhattan I became a bit dismayed, and viewed the scenes as something seen a million times, basically consumerism gone wild, giant crowds, and what felt like a ridiculous parade of zombies trying to catch a deal. I had a sleepless night back in Brooklyn, and decided to grab all my gear at about 3 am and start walking towards the Brooklyn Bridge. Once I finally made it, I set up my tripod with a wide angle lens, and started snapping away in complete awe of the energy surrounding me, the bridge came to life shortly before sunrise, I was a true observer oblivious to all my surroundings except what I saw through my lens.Lighting
As the sun made it's way above the horizon, I knew I wanted to capture the sunrise between the towers and the web like suspension cables. I would look in front and behind me in an attempt to capture the sun along with action involving the daily life of New Yorkers, this shot embodies my goal.Equipment
Steady Tripod, wide angle lens, and my Canon camera. I had a remote trigger attached to the camera so I could look around a bit and anticipate the shot.Inspiration
I had run around Brooklyn and Manhattan with all my gear, but felt truly unsatisfied from my shoots, they just didn't have a "uniqueness" about them, the morning of this shoot is when creativity struck me, and I went chasing a shot that would satisfy my ambition, I gave up on sleep and went "chasing".Editing
I adjusted some shadows and highlights, other then that, it's straight from the camera. In my camera bag
3 remote flashes, cleaning supplies, wide angle lens, macro lens, L series 24-70mm f/4 lens, flashlight, 4 camera batteries, a notebook, small diffuser for flashes, 12 double A batteries for flashes, remote triggers, business cards, a multi tool, and a sharpie.Feedback
Start early, before the sun comes up, use your flashlight when it's to dark to scope out the scene. Separate yourself from the outside world and become in tune with the view from your lens, try to mute all your senses besides vision, I had headphones on and could hear nothing but the tunes I was playing, this kept me from hearing all the banter around me, especially all the police that kept shouting my way, but never approached me, I was able to focus on nothing more then the view in front of me :)
