Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken in my garden. It's amazing how much time i can spend in this tiny garden with my camera and macro lens

Time

It was nice evening and what's important for this kind of pictures, there was no wind. I remember that the sun just get hidden behind some clouds and in result i've got a few pictures a little bit darker then i would usually take.

Lighting

Always trying to use natural light but this time had to use my macro ring flash

Equipment

This was shot with Nikon D810 and Sigma 105 mm Macro lens. I used tripod and macro ring flash. Also a piece of dark blue plexiglass and water spray

Inspiration

The nature always inspires me, it's the best artist and we just have to look closer to get some great ideas for pictures. I had some of this plants/weed in my garden and always after rain i was amazed how beautiful it looks like. i thought that it would looks nice with some colour as well that's why i used the blue plexiglass.

Editing

Done here some basic editing like changing from RAW to Jpeg, sharpening, dodge & burn and cropping

In my camera bag

It depends what shots I'm planning. For macro i use Nikon D810 body with Sigma 105mm Macro and Raynox DCR-250 Macro Lens - added to 50 mm prime lens changing it into a good macro lens. A tripod, remote trigger release and macro ring light are very important and always taking it with me. More unusual things in my bag is small spry bottle with water ( water droplets on the plants looks nice ) and... syringe with honey. It's so much easier to take a good shot when your insect model is busy eating sweet honey ;) I have always with me another camera -Nikon D80 infrared converted 690nm and a few other lenses like Nikkor 10,5 mm Fisheye, Tamron 28-300 mm and Tokina SD 17-35

Feedback

My advice would be - be patient, look around. There are always amazing things to photograph. Also - use tripod and trigger release ! You might think your hands are steady but with macro shots even tiny movement might destroy a great shot.
