Location
I took this photo outside on the patio of our house.Time
It was nighttime and the stone floor I was sitting on was really cold and uncomfortable.Lighting
To create the bokeh effect I plopped some Christmas lights on some camping chairs a few yards away. To illuminate the wine glass I grabbed a headlamp and shone it from underneath, so it wouldn't light up anything else on the patio.Equipment
I used a Canon eos rebel T5 with an 18-55mm lens on a tripod.Inspiration
We were doing a bokeh unit in our photography class, and I really liked the effect so I decided to try it at home.Editing
I didn't do any major Photoshopping on this composition, just some cropping and straightening and mild color correction. In my camera bag
I usually bring my camera, two lenses (the one I described earlier and a telephoto), a flashlight and laser for long exposures and light painting, and a tripod.Feedback
You have to be really patient and willing to keep going until you get a good shot. For me, this picture was totally unplanned. It evolved from earlier shots of candles and small sculptures in front of the bokeh that didn't look nearly as good.
