Location
This photo was staged and taken in the studio.Time
Since the shot in question was done in the studio with all lights out other than those illuminating at subject, time of day is not relevant.Lighting
I used a lens mounted ring light and two single led flashlights.Equipment
Bogen tripod with arm/centerpost using the arm configuration. Canon 5D MKII body, Canon 24-70 f4 series with image stabilization and Macro capability. Lens ring to allow me to get within several inces of subject. Camranger WIFI sender/app to allow control of all camera functions from my Ipad mini. Mirror was locked.Inspiration
I like Dandelions and wanted to capture the seeds falling.Editing
This was around 15 images Focus Stacked. I adjusted white and black levels and added a bit of sharpening to all images in Lightroom and the did the stacking and final processing in Photoshop. In my camera bag
It all depends on my project. For studio macro work I use the equipment previously mentioned. For nature photography I depend on a Canon 500 F4 L usually with a 1.4 teleconverter attached or a Canon 400 F 5.6 L. What I shoot from depends on the location: South Africa Safari companies use open vehicles, so an unextended monopod sitting on the jeep seat is fairly good. In East Africa you are generally in closed jeeps with pop-up tops, so a Kinetics bean bag is great. (better than a tripod. My favorite "walk around lens" is a Canon 70-200 f4 L. Sometimes the Canon "nifty-fifty. For landscapes I choose between a Canon 17-40 f4 L or the aforementioned 24-70. I always have a fed ND filters in my bag as well as circular polarizers.Feedback
For studio macro projects a good tripod and lighting is essential. Locking up your mirror helps avoid and vibration. Being able to control the camera wirelessly via the Camranger and Ipad combo make seeing the framing (especially at low or odd angles) much easier and allows for incremental focus adjustments without touching the camera. (a must for a focus stacking project where lens is only a few inches from subject).
