Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Dubai, UAE.

Time

This photo is so special to me, because i got to know and be a friend with a fellow photographer who is living in Dubai. Once i settled in Dubai hotel, i called him and he took me to photo secret location of his and this is one of them. I remember reaching this place just after the sunset and i wasn't happy that i missed the great colors. So i decided the next day to come back and i managed to reach the place just in the right moment before sunset in few minutes

Lighting

I had imagined this shot the day before, how its gonna look and timing the frames across the sunset to dark time. I had the pleasure to experiment photo blending this image by time. I fixed my tripod still and started taking shots for the best light of the sunset and waited until the city covered in dark and the lights of the city shines, then i took bracketed exposures for the best HDR. This how i managed to get this image.

Equipment

This image was shot with my Nikon D600 and the 18-35mm Nikon lens fixed on a benro tripod with a ball head.

Inspiration

I always loved taking photographs of places i visit and this is no exception, being in one of the worlds newly developed cities like Dubai, its hard not to push the trigger and get some photos. When my friend showed me this place, i couldn't help it and quickly got my gear out, especially there was no one around. It was fascinating seeing the cities from far away like this.

Editing

Post processing to me is a must. Understanding the limitation of the sensors make it a must. I took two shots at different timing without moving the tripod, one on sunset with the gorgeous colors and one in the night with the city lights on. I did some adjustments, like curves, hue/saturation and of course lens correction in Ps. I usually use photoshop for all my editing and not lightroom. Blending the 2 images together and finally used Nik Collection for final touches and here you go.

In my camera bag

My bag i always take with me in any travel should have in it the following: Nikon D810 Nikkor 16-35mm f4 Nikkor 70-200mm f2.8 Nikkor 50mm f1.8 Extra batteries Remote Trigger release Nikon Flash (External) ND Filters (Usually the big stopper, 6 stops & Grad ND 3 Stops) Wet tissues and cleaning glass material Rocket Blower Tripod

Feedback

Landscape and cityscape photography considered an outdoor photography, so my advise to anyone who is interested in it to always know about the weather at all time when going for shooting, for example Dubai is known to be very humid across the year, keeping some lens cleaning material is a must. familiarize yourself with landscape post processing techniques, because its different than portraits or architecture for example. There are a lot of tips floating out in the internet, make sure to look at them. Wish you all a great experience and fun.
