The photo was taken in Ubud , in monkey forest , where the monkeys are free. Ubud is situated in the center of Bali in Indonésia . There are many monkeys families who walk with their babies .Time
It was early in the morning , before arriving of other tourist , to spend a quiet moment with the monkeys . You must have eyes everywhere because the monkeys look into you bag , climb on your camera .... But in the morning it's more interesting because the monkeys do their toilet, cleans the baby and eat. the afternoon is siesta and they have less expressions.Lighting
In the morning the light is soft in the forest but a little bit dark but its better not to use a flash to avoid disturbing animals .The most important is to find animals that are in the rays of light passing through the jungle, this gives very interesting tones .iso 400 was enoughEquipment
At this period I had a Canon 550D but no tripod exif : F5.6 1/60s 72mm. I was a little be afraid to use a tripod because monkeys are running everywhere and these are small thieves .Incidentally, I had a big problem. A baby monkey is mounted on my head to steal my earrings and my camera I have not seen him arrive because I was focused on my picture. At the same time a big adult monkey slowly approached me , and violently bit me the arm.He did not let go, I thought he was going to rip off my arm. My arm stayed blue for almost a month...Inspiration
I was really exciting to go to monkey forest . My object was to take scene of life , and and I've not been disappointed .These are very close relatives of humans. They shall assist, monitor, love and are very attentive to the baby. This scene mother and child especially touched me. Look at all this tenderness in the eyes, the benevolence of the arms . Lots of sweetness so that these animals can be very violent and dangerousEditing
In general I use lightroom to correct exposure errors and translating an ambience that suits me, but I also happen to make some correction with photoshop. Here I use to put more light above the head and a little more clarity on the hair . I also give a little bit more exposure on the eyes .In my camera bag
Now I am working with a Canon 5D mark II . The problem is the weight when you go far away . Most of time I take the 24/105 . Only tripod if I decided to do a special subject .Never forget a filter anti-uv and polarizing filters and many compact flash .I take my wide angle if I need it or if I know I will need it, but most of time it's the 24/105 . The zoom also in bag only if a special subject .The weight is really a problem.I had much more by making the picture tendonitis that doing sports.....Feedback
To be patient , to stay quiet with animals because even if they are cute and attractive, they are wild animals and they can be dangerous . You enter in their world, it's not yours and it must remain discreet, not to disturb them to capture natural expressions, less they see you, the better shots you will have.
