Location
This photo was taken at Jockusarlon Beach in Iceland when I was on a photography trip.Time
I woke up early and drove to the beach before the sun began to rise. This gave me time to pick the best location on the beach and set up my tripod. Fortunately, it was a glorious sunrise so the conditions were perfect for the shot.Lighting
I wanted to draw on the beauty of the morning sunrise while also showcasing the drama of the photographer risking a fall and his equipment to capture that perfect image of the waves and ice burgs. I used a slow shutter speed to accentuate both the beauty and the drama of the scene.Equipment
Nikon D7100 camera with a 10 to 24 mm lens, a tripod and a graduated filterInspiration
The moment I saw this photographer risking life and limb to get his shot I knew this was a perfect scene to capture. The sunrise, the crashing waves, the photographer up to his waist in water and the ice bergs all made for a perfect composition.Editing
I did some minor cropping and some brightening of the shadows but nothing else.In my camera bag
I always carry the Nikon D7100, with the 10 to 24mm and the 24 to 70 mm lenses. I always have my tripod with me and an assortment of graduated filters.Feedback
Keep your eyes open for unique photographic opportunities. I went to this beach to capture the sunrise, waves and ice burgs but when I saw the photographer trying to take his photo, I knew that this was the perfect opportunity for a unique and magical image. I always try keep my eyes open when I'm at a location at try to adapt to the sights and conditions that I experience.
