Behind The Lens

Location

This picture was taken in my kids bedroom in Pickering, Ontario.

Time

This was one of the most random shots I have ever taken, it was only by coincidence that I came upstairs when I did, and wasn't sure if I should get my camera or get upset. This shot was taken on December 15, 2015.

Lighting

It was the light from the ipad i saw in his eye that made me get the camera, it gave such a bright but soft glow in the dark, it had to be captured.

Equipment

This was shot with a Canon 70d with a 100mm f/2.8 macro L series, no other equipment involved.

Inspiration

The shot was random, but I was inspired by the way the light from the ipad was lighting up his face.

Editing

I used light room 6 to enhance the tones to my liking, but I didn't have to do much editing because I was almost able to capture my vision on camera.

In my camera bag

Right now I have the Canon 70d and Sony A6000 for body. The Sony is a recent purchase, and I really love the mirror less technology, focus peaking, and a couple more features that my Canon can no do(yet I hope). As for lens,... I love my 100mm macho because I do alot of portrait photography and close up shots. I recently purchased a sigma art 24-35mm f2 for group shots or some landscape, great to shoot with at night. Bower 8mm f3.5 fisheye, I use this lens to make certain scenes dramatic, by pulling almost 180° of information into the scene. A 50mm of course, but no regular 50mm, a pentax Takumar 50mm F1.4 with Super-Multi-Coating, Usefull for every situation. Very sharp even at f/1.7 (in poor light condition even 1.4 is sharp but in normal light condition it has a dreamy character with colors, but lines and borders are very sharp. All my lens fit on both camera by adaptors, saves me alot of money but only one downfall. ...no auto focus is a nightmare on the Sony when using different brand lends. For lighting, I carry 3 different brand speed light that I could afford, 3 in 1 reflector and 4 youngnuo transceiver.

Feedback

The key to taking a picture like this, is to put you subject in a dark room, get something that reflects light into the subject face. Get your camera, set your aperture wide open to let in as much light, then set your shutter speed to let in enough light to make your subject clear, also to maintain sharpness keep your iso at about 400-800, not to let in too much grain that your have to edit in poss processing. You might also have to put your camera on a tripod to avoid shakes and maintain sharpness. Good luck and happy shooting.....
