Behind The Lens

Location
Taken on the Sydney Harbour Bridge's Eastern Walkway, facing East
Time
Around 4:55am December 6th 2015 AEDST
Lighting
Lighting was natural, a little dark but that's what made the contrast and clarity stand out a bit more
Equipment
Nikon D5500 DSLR mated to a Tamron 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 zoom lens, shot as 6 separate JPEGs, stitched using AutoStitch. Settings were full manual - 1/2 to 1/3 seconds exposure @ ISO400-ISO800 18mm f/3.5
Inspiration
I was out & about on an impromptu 25-hour transport gunzelling session (buses, trains). Woke up at 3pm Saturday December 5th 2015, left home at 6pm, travelled around on several buses on trackwork/train replacement services as part of my transport interest. 2am Sunday came around, decided I'd go to the city via NightRide bus. Got there at 3am, decided I should try for some sunrise photos from the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Walked around for the perfect spot, experimented with a few settings then settled on what seemed suitable for the lighting conditions. When I saw what I'd taken, I was pleasantly surprised
Editing
Only post-processing was matching the contrast/brightness/exposure levels in Windows Live Photo Gallery, then stitching using AutoStitch, plus final levels matching and noise reduction
In my camera bag
I don't carry much, usually just my phone, phone charger, Nikon D5500/Tamron 18-270mm lens, spare battery, earphones and an external microphone for my DSLR for my transport recording sessions
Feedback
Gotta find the right spots as early as you can - 3am-4am worked out fine for me, though timezones and Daylight Savings Time may affect your decisions. For me, it was all experimental as I'm only an amateur
