Behind The Lens

Location

In a Zoo, in Lille, north France.

Time

It was the afternoon, about 4 pm I'd say...

Lighting

That was complete natural lighting, then...

Equipment

A Canon 7D and my old Canon 55-250 mm IS II... No flash, no tripod, just an Aps-c camera and a lens...

Inspiration

When I saw the rhinos, I just knew that I wanted to get a photograph with the couple... I stayed a good moment to wait but they did not almost move. Then I went to see other animals then am ironed first time, waited again in vain... Then I went back to the rhinos one second time... and a third one...and at the end of a few minutes, the male decided to join the female then I took this photo and several others of course !

Editing

Yes I did...but not very much... The background was already dark, enough to make it darker easily...So I turned it to black as I've done it for many other photos of animals... I aded a few of clarity and went play with the lighting, the white and the black... but, one more time, just a little bit... A touch of contrast at the end and it was done !

In my camera bag

I have a Canon 5D Mark III & a Canon 7D and various lenses : A Canon 50mm f/1.4, a Canon 70-200 f/2.8 IS USM II, a Sigma 24-105 ART f/4, a Tokina 16-28 f/2.8; a Lensbaby Composer Pro f/2, old lenses & some coloured filters too...

Feedback

Be patient ! Don't look at your watch or your phone to see hour... look at what you're waiting for ! There are not many ways to capture this moments... You just have to know what you want and wait for... & also praying for it to happen, before you have to go away...
