This photo is taken deep in the woods in west part of Sweden where Gizmo, me and my SO got lost for hours.Time
As a day of we thought that it would be nice to take a short walk in the morning, but one exiting hill led to another and a short walk extended to whole day hike in the woods and this picture is taken 2:38pm 10th of May.Lighting
It’s all just beautiful natural light. Getting through the trees and bouncing around from some lighten rocks and the moss on the ground.Equipment
This actually was one of the first photographs taken with our new armature/semi pro Canon 70D camera and the kit lens 18-135mm. We had a tripod with us but it was way too good of a moment to even try to set it up.Inspiration
Nature have always been home kind of place for me, I always feel comfortable taking pictures outside without hesitating to lay down in dirt, get wet or climb a tree. Fresh air and the sound of nature are mine greatest inspirations to this picture.Editing
Yes, and this is one of the pictures where I finally started to understand post-processing. Before it has always been to make something “pretty” without really having an idea about it. But then I sent a message to the person who inspired me a lot in photography world, Ronny Garcia. The best part was actually that he answered, the second best was that he shared some ideas with me and recommended learn to use color wheel, so I did. This picture is processed in Lightroom. Image is cropped and tools like adjustment curves, hue, saturation and luminance, did some lens correction and just a touch of vignette. In my camera bag
Canon 70d is always there with mounted 50mm 1.8 lens. 18-135mm kit lens is also in the bag together with my creative tools: YN-560 III speedlite + grid and color gels, intervalometer, ND and CPL filters, batteries, batteries and batteries. And I always having a notebook, you never know when creativity hits you.Feedback
This particular shot wasn't staged or stationary at all so I recommend when you're out photographing, never put down your camera when you think that you got the shot. Most of the time we tend to try to create moments, stage people, our pets and even the environment, but there is beauty and perfect shot everywhere around us. What I usually do when I come to new place is close my eyes, take three deep breaths and then open my eyes to whole new surroundings then I saw before. Another thing I would like to mention is horizon line. For me horizon, in the middle is a sin, unless picture is symmetrical. It is bit ironic that this picture got chosen, but in this case it was so many big rocks and other formations of the ground that i just went with it. So that’s another advice, I see so many pictures on ViewBug where horizon in the middle and it would create so much more interests in the picture if it was moved, rule of thirds, is our best friend. And lastly, colorwheel. Learn it, buy one play with it. It will make all the difference in post-processing. I would like to thank ViewBug team for the best photography site on the planet. It is just amazing community!
