Behind The Lens

Location

This picture is taken at the Kollumerwaard, a part of the National Park Lauwersmeer; in the North of the Netherlands. The Lauwersmeer is a former estuary from the Waddensea and is was taken from the sea in the sixties of the last century due to the Deltaplan. To protect the Netherlands from the sea after the disaster in the province of Zeeland in the fifties. 1836 humans lost their live after the dyke breach.

Time

It was in the evening in June of the summer of 2015; I was a bit fed up with the meetings I had, and at 9.00 pm I drove to the Lauwersmeer, a fifteen minutes drive.

Lighting

In this case I used the automode, because I had to act fast.

Equipment

This shot was taken with a Nikon Coolpix P610, with no further equipment.

Inspiration

There is always action when I visit the Konik Horses, a semi wild horse; I saw these two horses standing this way and I was inspired by the kind way these horses treated each other. The two heads of the horses are in a kind of heart shape and I think we are obliged to have a heart for our environment. Our earth is our house.

Editing

A little bit, just sharpening and more contrast.

In my camera bag

This picture was shot with a Nikon P610, a bridge camera; nowadays I shoot with a mirror-less camera, the reason for that is weight. We, my wife and I, walk a lot and the size and weight of DSLR with a few lenses are too much after a 5 hour walk. I had a nikon D300 and D700. I sold these cameras. Nowadays: camera Olympus OM-D E-M10 III; lenses: Olympus M-Zuiko 14-42 mm pancake, Olympus 25 mm 1,8 and Panasonic Lumix G vario 45-150 mm asph. My wish is to buy a EM 1 for more rugged conditions
