Behind The Lens

Location

Greetings; I took the photo on 6-30-2009 in House Spring, Mo.

Time

The time of day was late afternoon and we had a lot of sunshine.

Lighting

Because Drew was looking directly into the sun this caused the reflectition of the baseball to be seen in his sunglasses.

Equipment

My camera was a Cannon PowerShot S21S. No tripod just hand held.

Inspiration

I was standing by the fence looking on at the game and had my camera ready for a shot. I saw something flash before me in the viewfinder and snapped the photo. It won 2nd place in a local photo contest in 2014.

Editing

I cropped it a bit but the photo is perfectly framed with the yellow foul pole post and the white soccer post.

In my camera bag

At that time I just had my Cannon point and shoot camera nothing fancy. Today, I have a cannon DSLR EOS REBEL T5 with the usual lenses and a mono pod, and tripod.

Feedback

My suggestion for those who want to take this kind of action sports photos is practice; Go to high school games and take photos of the kids playing sports. I would use a telephoto lens and a mono pod or tripod. Try to get as close to the action as possible. And happy hunting. BTY last year I entered another sports photo of a wrestling match which won 1st place in that category.
