The photo was taken at my home in Pune, India. I had procured new Lastolite Hotrod Octa 36" and phottix odin off camera flash triggers; this was one of the experimental shots of my wife I took when I was playing around with these new toys.Time
I was experimenting with High Speed Sync feature on my 600exrt flash and the Phottix odin's so I decided to leave the lights in the room ON to help me focus at night. This was shot around 8pm on 13th September 2015.Lighting
I shot this using two speedlites. Main light through a lastolite hotrod Octa placed on right hand side of the the camera at an 45 degree angle lighting the subjects face and a kicker light through a snoot on left hand side of the camera behind the subject at very low power to just highlight some hair.Equipment
This was shot on a Canon EOS 5D Mark III with a canon ef 70-200mm f/2.8l is ii usm lense, one Canon Speedlite 600EX-RT, one Canon Speedlite 430EX II, Lastolite Hotrod Octa 36" mounted on a elinchrom lightstand and a Gary Fong Speed SnootInspiration
I had promised my wife that I would take amazing shots of her while purchasing all the gizmos. So during this shoot I started with some headshots of her followed by some 3/4th body length shots(all facing the camera). Then suddenly the idea of shooting with her back towards the camera struck my mind. I started shooting with that perspective and finally improvised to get this shot.Editing
I did some raw processing followed by conversion of the photo to black and white with some dodging and burning. In the end I added some vignetting to direct attention towards the face.In my camera bag
I do wide range of photography which includes portraits, landscapes, product, macro etc. The things that you would always find in my camera bag are my Canon EOS 5D Mark III body, my favorite Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM Lens, Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM Lens, lens cleaning kit, extra batteries, memory cards and battery charger.Feedback
Other than technical aspects emphasis should be given to expressions as well. This was the first time my wife was facing studio setup which made her a tad nervous. So I had to navigate her emotions in order to get the best possible expressions out of her.
