I love it. It is also interesting that you took it with a Sony A6000 since I have been considering getting one. Beautiful image quality, original and unique photo.

Thanks so much soniaclement. I agree. That is why I love to photograph close to home. You can go back to the same place until everything falls into place!

Behind The Lens

Location
I took this image in early December 2015 at Cheam Wetlands in the Fraser Valley, British Columbia, Canada. I visit this place almost daily from late September to early February. A recent trip to the wetlands found this image no longer possible. A happy beaver chewed through a tree and a giant tree now obscures this view. So I am so happy that everything aligned and I got this image when I did!
Time
This images was taken at 4:33pm. I often visit the wetlands early in the morning and latter in the afternoon as the temperature change in the winter can lead to fog.
Lighting
I go the the wetlands regularly from late September to early February every year. I have taken this exact image many times, but this day every thing lined up. There had been fog rolling across the water and the sun was lined up perfectly so that the setting sun was in just the right spot as it set.
Equipment
This image was shot handheld with my Sony A6000. I was actually out looking for birds and had my Nikon D7000 with my Sigma 150-500 around my neck. I always tuck my trusty Sony into my camera bag just in case an amazing landscape shot should come my way. I was so happy that day that I had it with me!
Inspiration
As I mentioned I have shot this exact image many, many times. There is something about the symmetry of the composition that always draws me in. This day it was the fog and perfectly aligned setting sun that completed the story.
Editing
My style of post-processing is to try to inhabit that space between a photograph and a painting. I always start with a raw image and then bring that into Photoshop CC. From there I use any number of different programs from OnOne to Topaz, and Nik to play with my image until I am happy.
In my camera bag
I do have a number of different size camera bags that I tailor depending on the length and distance of my outings. I can have all my equipment if I am not sure of what I will find when I reach my destination. I tend to err on the side of carrying everything. I have a Nikon D7000, Nikon 18-105mm, 50mm, 55-300, and 105 Macro. I also have the Sigma 150-500mm and the 10-20mm. I have an SB800, SB600 and (2) SB700 Flashes. I also have the Sony A6000 with an adapter for an older Pentax lens. I also have an ND Filter and a Manfrotto tripod.
Feedback
Be prepared for anything. As I mentioned I was actually out shooting birds, but I know this area as I visit it often, and I knew there was a chance I would get fog. There is not a worse feeling than not having the right lens with you. Find places close to home that you can visit often. Because I have taken this exact composition many, many times, when the right conditions presented themselves I was ready!
