This image is a favorite, and brings back some memories of a fantastic Nantucket vacation… Wandering around Capaum Pond, one misty sunrise (about forty years ago) I took this picture. I was pretty new to photography at the time (shooting with my new Nikon F2). And still learning…

There was a big beautiful patch of rose mallow on the shores of the small freshwater pond a stone's throw from the ocean (Dionis Beach, if you want to research the geography). Truthfully, it was the first time I ever saw mallow… The flower blooms can be up to ten inches in size!

And – here's the sad part – most of the shots on the couple rolls I shot that morning were seriously overexposed. I'm talking by at least three stops… So pretty much useless (except maybe 'til Photoshop came along…). But this one image was right on.

As a matter of fact what you see is exactly what scanned off my Kodachrome. Zero Photoshop on any other optimization…

Another note – I also like the geometry of this shot. It divides very nicely into four quarters for a quadriptych....
