Really looks like a scary place to be when a storm shows up. In Ontario, Canada we get a few outstanding storms but because of the terrain, the weather forecast is our only advance notice. Sometimes they come across the Great Lakes and we get a glimpse of what you captured here.

Behind The Lens

Location
This image I captured over the hills of Coleyville Qld Australia. A beautiful area that sits along the ranges.
Time
This image was captured middle to late afternoon during summer. In summer it stays day fairly late so makes chasing and photographing a tad easier.
Lighting
Lightning although beautiful and powerful it is also extremely deadly. Caution should always be used as lightning can strike kilometers ahead of a storm system making it not only unpredictable but a constant risk. Shoot close to your car or in your car using a remote. Avoid tree's and power poles etc. But mostly if it feels risky it is a sign to move on.
Equipment
In this image I used a Nikon D750 with a Tamron 15-30mm f/2.8 lens. I ran a Pixel Opillas wireless remote and a Pro master tripod.
Inspiration
I have a strong passion for weather and severe storm photography. The way clouds dance and no storm is ever the same. It's also a reminder it's power is unlike anything else we have.
Editing
I corrected the shadow slightly and the sharpening because the image was dark due to the cloud blocking the sun.
In my camera bag
I always have my Nikon D750 with my Tamron 15-30mm f/2.8 lens, my 24-85mm f/4 nikon lens. A Pixel oppilas wireless remote and a lightning trigger.
Feedback
Always be aware of your surroundings and know your exit's. Don't hop out of your car till you have the settings on the camera to limit your exposure to the severe weather. And be sure to check every 3 or 4 shots to see if the lens has dirt or rain etc on it as strong winds may be occurring. Also set your tripod up and fix the focus to the desired setting. Then switch off auto focus so the shutter speed is all you need to change and it's again means less exposure to the weather and dangers.
