Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo while walking through the woods on my property. There was a tree that had fallen several years ago during an ice storm and had this interesting growth of fungus along the length of the trunk.

Time

I remember it being about mid December and it was quite chilly. I has to use a mini tripod and a shutter cable because I was shivering a bit. I can't remember the exact date but it was early afternoon on an overcast day.

Lighting

Being overcast made made finding the right angle difficult as there weren't really any shadows to accent some of the details as much as I would have liked.

Equipment

I was using a Nikon D3200 with a 18-55mm lens and a generic mini tripod with a shutter cable

Inspiration

I like to find interesting patterns in nature and this simply caught my eye. I find that it's easier to find things like this when I'm not looking for it.

Editing

I did some light adjustments in Lightroom to exposure, temperature and specific color saturations to help make the details stand out a bit more.

In my camera bag

I have my Nikon D3200, 18-55mm lens, 55-200mm lens, various macro lenses and a wide angle attachment.

Feedback

Walk through a nature park or anywhere outdoors really. Let your mind wander as you take in sights and sounds around you and listens to that little voice in your mind when it says "Hey! That's interesting!" That has always been my cue to take the shot.
