Location
This photo was taken in Croatia near Plitvice Lakes National Park. It was a really foggy day which unfortunately didn't result in great imagery at Plitvice Lakes. I had been so excited to visit the national park and had this day planned for months! Ironically the best image of the day was probably this one on a quiet road from our accommodation towards the park. I loved the mood and feel that morning and I think image captured that mood.Time
The photo was from late September and this was probably around 8am.Lighting
I do like how the light is diffused as it reaches the mist. There is a real lightness to it before descending into the darker middle foreground.Equipment
I shot this with the Canon 6D and the 24-105mm f/4.Inspiration
It was a combination of the curvature on the road the mist in the air and how the trees seem to guard the quiet road. It looks like I'm lost and it makes this very difficult to place. It's close to feeling dreamlike. This was a very peaceful moment before encountering hoards of tourists at Plitvice Lakes.Editing
I warmed the tones a bit to emphasize that autumn feel. I also increased the contrast to make the tree trunks more prominent. This helps aid the eye along the curvature of the road.In my camera bag
I shoot with the Canon 6D. I always have the L-series 24-105mm f/4 which is such a fantastic kit lens. Very versatile. My photography is mainly travel related so it's nice to have such a range in one lens and to be able to pack light. The image quality is very good for a zoom. It works in so many different situations. I also have the L-series 70-200mm f/2.8. I like this for outdoor events and shooting some sports. Also very good for portraits. I usually carry a tripod and some neutral density filters to make full use of various lighting situations. I don't use a ton of flash but when I do I use the Canon Speedlight 580ex II.Feedback
This shot was a bit lucky. This wasn't planned. My day was meant to be filled with photographing glorious waterfalls at Plitvice Lakes. Due to the weather conditions it didn't work out the way I had hoped during my only day at the park. However the best photographs always seem to present themselves when you're not necessarily looking for them. My advice is to always carry a camera so you're ready for those moments. Look at life and observe the world around you like you are in an art gallery. I sat waiting for the bus today observing some men lifting a sofa into a moving truck. One man had a cigarette dangling from his mouth. I saw the art. I didn't have my camera on me but I was content with framing this moment and seeing something unique through my eyes only. So even when you don't have your camera it's good practice. You'll start to notice intriguing compositions, different lighting scenarios and untold stories that you might not otherwise see.
