An orchid cactus (also known as an epiphyllum) bloom. Depending on the variety, the flower sometimes only lasts one day, a reminder of the ephemeral nature of life. This particular bloom was the first on the plant in nearly six years and opened on a cloudy, rainy day in July. One might say it was ready for its close up and picked a perfect day for it.
