I just love the 3-D affect this capture brings! How wonderful to have experienced this sunset and captured it forever.

Location
This photo was taken on an Alaskan Cruise in the open water - the sun was setting and we were sitting on our balcony and I noticed the beautiful colours and the stunning clouds - I took about 3 pictures to capture the moment hoping one would work .Time
The sun was setting so it was mid evening - the colours looked so nice that I immediately picked up my camera and started to take pictures - only after I loaded it on my computer did I realize this was one of my favourites.Lighting
The setting sun provided all the light for this shot - the colors and clouds provided the detail and the ambiance of the scene.Equipment
This was shot on a Canon T2i with an 18 to 55 lens - there was no other equipment available - I braced myself against the door and tried to move with the waves and boat motion and capture as clear a picture as I could.Inspiration
The open sea and the contrast of the sky and setting colours made me grab my camera and start taking some pictures - I felt the whole scene was trying to tell a story!Editing
Being an amateur photographer I have not mastered photo editing software as of yet in any complicated manner. For this photo I adjusted the mid tones and contrast to make the colours pop and produce a dramatic effect. In my camera bag
Since this picture I have upgraded to the Canon 5D Mark III with the 24-105mm lens. I also carry my 70-200mm F4 lens and my tripod .Feedback
Interesting photos are everywhere but the trick is to keep shooting. Look for interesting contrasts in colours , patterns and unique scenes. Take pictures and look for a story, learn from the ones that are not interesting and why - the more you shoot the more you learn. My wife has recently taken up photography as a hobby and I have learnt so much from her as she steps out of her comfort zone and is taking amazing pictures. Bottom line is keep looking for that great next picture and experiment as much as possible. Happy Shooting!
