This picture was taken in the National Park of Gran Paradiso, in Piedmont Italy During a cold night but spectacular, I found myself doing a test of star trails, and this is the result!Time
It was taken during a November night in 2015, precisely on November 27.. We know that this year was an anomalous winter and this has allowed me to be 2880 mt that night! The walk back up to the bivouac Carpano was long and quite tiring, but it was worth it; In fact, the ogre valley is considered a great place to observe the night sky.Lighting
As I explained before mine was a try to make a star trails; I set the machine to 14mm ƒ / 2.8 ISO 1000 and waited for 960 second , less than 16 minutes by shooting, and when I looked at the preview on my d700 I just smile!! I did not do much more, because as you can see how many stars can be glimpsed in the photos, I just added the stars still in the first frame and tried to open some shadows.Equipment
This was shot on a Nikon D700 with Samyang 14 mm f 2.8. Tripod Manfrotto.Inspiration
Definitely is my best star trails on a personal opinion. Many large fotografgi images have inspired me and encouraged to try to make this picture with this technique. I had already tried other times (always with a single exposure) but the result was not exciting. But with one night so clean and serene I could not ask for better!Editing
The landscape photographs require a lot of post-production and attention to detail. I as usual lavborato with lightroom to give a little tone to the whole picture. Then selectively before the sky and on the star trails, and then on the lower part of the picture, trying to make it as pleasant as possible on the first floor of the shelter. I added to the pinpoint stars sky (taken from a previous picture to the star trails) and it's done!In my camera bag
I always carry my nikon d700, a 18-35 f 3.5 - 4.5 nikkor and a Nikkor 80-200 f 2.8. Also a Samyang 14 mm f 2,8 for night photography. The Manfrotto tripod, a series of filters Lee gnd. Bigstopper and the little stopper Lee. My backpack lowenpro great because compact and lightweight yet roomy.Feedback
This kind of images is not very simple , it takes a lot of practice and especially a lot of determination. We have to climb to 2880 meters, with a beat with the cold and the snow, hoping that the weather is clement, and try to bring home a good shooting post production with due caution. One piece of advice I can give it to you, try to stay always within the 25 seconds, ISO high enough based on the sensitivity of your camera, and the aperture open to the maximum to try to capture all the light possible. oh, and if you want to get a nice round star vortex north pointing towards the North Star. I will be tiring and challenging, but it will be worth while!
