This particular pic was taken outside my house in Brisbane. I'd just returned from hearvey bay, I noticed that there was a storm building so I had to beat the system home- plus I didn't have my camera with me, and thought there would be a great light show with this particular system.Time
I can remember it was late afternoon, I got the car undercover and could feel the sticky humidity building in the air. Queensland has magnificent summer storms! I raced upstairs to grab my kit. Quickly set the tripod up as I was going to use a slow shutter speed, and patiently waited for a great light show from Mother Nature!!Lighting
Being that a storm front was closing in I knew that I would need a slow shutter speed to capture the light which was provided, and I also increased the ISO. As there was also still some natural light around, I also used a polarising filter to play around with to see if it would have any effect on the final result.Equipment
Taken with my OMD EM-1, manofroto tripod, Olympus 12-40mm pro lens and a polarising filterInspiration
I love trying to capture lightning. I find that it's a challenge, but when you get a nice formation of fork lightning in the frame there's no satisfaction that equals.Editing
Minimal exposure and white balance tweaks within Lightroom. Coupled with some sharpness adjustmentsIn my camera bag
My whole kit is M43, Olympus omd em1, 12-40mm pro lens, 8mm fisheye lens, Olympus 12mm prime, Olympus 17mm primeFeedback
Patience.... Storm systems move pretty quick. Make your frame interesting... And wait for the magic to happen.. I started off at 10sec exposure at f8 and played with the settings while on the fly. Tripod is essential.
