Location
This photo was taken on location in Sunol, CA (San Francisco Bay Area). My first attempt at an outdoor shoot. I am very much an amateur photographer, learning on the fly, and lucky to have a beautiful experienced model as a girlfriend. I just love sharing in her passion, and capturing her beauty as I see it.Time
This was a late afternoon shot, though with the trees I wish I chose earlier in the day as there was a fair amount of shadows to contend with.Lighting
I wanted to take advantage of the afternoon sunshine and natural shadows. Next time, I will look to do a morning shoot with the sun rising versus setting.Equipment
I currently shoot with an old Canon Rebel XT and have been playing with various lenses. This shot was taken with my Canon EF 28-135mm. I recently rented some high-end lenses and will likely do that going forward as the results were amazing.Inspiration
I had been wanting to do an outdoor fashion type shoot for some time, and my girlfriend noticed this location from the highway one day. We navigated to it and realized it would make a great location for a shoot.Editing
Thanks to the natural lighting I didn't have to do much post-processing work. Just some minor blemish touch-ups and such.In my camera bag
I am very much a beginner so my bag doesn't consist of much. My Canon EOS Rebel XT, a speed flash, my EF 28-135mm lens, a 50mm lens, and anything else I happen to rent. Hoping to expand my knowledge along with my bag this year.Feedback
I think the biggest advice is to scope out the location, and definitely do it at the same time you intend to shoot. It will give you a better sense for shadows and lighting. As I said, the tracks were surrounded by trees which gave off more shadows than I anticipated. I would have liked a little more direct sunlight to brighten the face. I would also recommend letting the model be natural, I have had a lot of success having the model move or walk or use their hands and arms as oppose to just posing.
