Bosque adentro

No veo más que el reflejo del sol sobre el dosel del bosque. No oigo más que el murmullo del viento y a lo lejos el efímero canto de un pájaro, invisible como el aire que nos mece.

Miro y escucho. Mi mente bulle en pensamientos y recuerdos. Incluso en este silencio y tan lejos de la ciudad, parece como si me alcanzaran sus intrigas, sus frivolidades y rencores; despojos que creía haber dejado en el camino.

Pero este bosque me ampara y sus árboles son bastiones firmes a los que me agarro. Como en ningún otro lugar, en los bosques siento los recónditos pasos de Dios, su presencia. Siempre necesito caminar en los bosques para alejar mis demonios. Aunque allí todavía no descanse por completo, le siento tan cerca.

Dudo que muchos entiendan por qué quiero una vez y otra alejarme de los caminos y hacer fotografía. Lo poco que he alcanzado a saber no me deja otra opción que perderme. Incluso de mi mismo. De mis errados propósitos. De mis recuerdos. Para abrirme a lo completamente inesperado.

Bosque adentro. Con mis pensamientos al unísono de mis pasos, sigo huellas invisibles que se funden en el barro. El tiempo parece detenerse cuando descubro paisajes sobrecogedores. Y cuando estoy lejos, muy lejos, y ya no entiendo nada, entonces pienso que puede que esté ante la verdad. Solo eso puedo deciros.

I see nothing but the reflection of the sun on the canopy of the forest. I hear only the murmur of the wind and, in the distance, the ephemeral song of a bird, invisible as the air that rocks us.

I look and listen. My mind boils in thoughts and memories. Even in this silence and so far from the city, it seems as if its intrigues, frivolities and grudges still reach me; remains that I thought I had left on the road.

But this forest protects me and its trees are strong bastions to which I cling. Like nowhere else, in the woods I feel the recondite steps of God, his presence. I always need to walk into the woods to ward off my demons. Although I still do not fully rest there, I feel him so close.

I doubt that many understand why I want to get away from the way once and again and do photography. The little that I have come to know leaves me no choice but to lose myself. Even from myself. From my unwise purposes. From my memories. For opening myself to the completely unexpected.

Deep in the forest. With my thoughts in unison of my steps, I follow invisible tracks that fuse in the mud. Time seems to stop when I discover overwhelming landscapes. And when I am far, very far away, and I no longer understand anything, then I think that may be I am before the truth. I can only tell you this.

Forest at El Escorial, Madrid. The trees are a kind of oak called Quercus Pyrenaica, a medium-size but strong oak that can resist the dry and hot climate of Madrid.
