This is a beautiful portrait. Lovely tones and composition but the best part is how you captured his connection to the land.

Beautiful shot, it's rather complete as well. Excellent colors, the model stands just right, nice combination of the model, outfit and the items in his hands. Great background bokeh as well. You should have this one printed and on your wall, also give a printed version to the model. Think he deserves a copy of this photo

Location
This photo was taken at my father's small acreage, near Panama, Iowa. There is actually a small creek that is just on the backside of the image that is absolutely breath taking.Time
I arrived at my father's home on a very foggy November morning, around 9am, shortly after sunrise. I was created by a man in full vintage leathers, sporting an antique rifle. He fit the part superbly! His hair, which has always been long was not done up in a ponytail, but instead flowed around his face, capturing the soft morning light.Lighting
On my way over to his home, the weather became cloudy. I believe there was rain in the forecast and I remember praying for it to hold off until the shoot was over. In exchange, I was blessed with this beautiful fog filtered morning light, that was exceptional for photographing.Equipment
I use a Nikon D300S...nothing fancy, but gets the job done. I have had this camera for about four years and I have no intentions of upgrading anytime soon. My go to lens is my Tamron 18-270 mm lens. This is a very versatile lens and can be used for many different shoots.Inspiration
My inspiration was to capture my Dad in his environment. he is very intone with nature and I wanted this image to depict that. He has always had a huge interest in the Native American culture, down to his hand made and beaded leathers he wears very often. I feel that I now have something that will be treasured by me and my children, and possibly my children's children for years to come. That is what art is all about, right?Editing
I tweaked this image in Lightroom, to enhance the natural light that hit across my Father's face, followed by minor adjustments in Photoshop. Very little post processing was done to this image, as I was really lucky with the natural light for this particular shoot. All in all, the final image was completed in around 20 minutes. In my camera bag
The first thing that I always make sure mohave on hand is my back up camera, which happens to be a Canon EOS 7D. I am ambidextrous to Nikon and Canon, though I prefer my Nikon. I had the opportunity to learn both cameras as being a second photographer at special events for a close friend of mine, who is also a photographer. The next thing, would be of course spare memory cards. You can never have enough! Of course, I always have my Nikon D300S at my side, sporting my go to lens, which happens to be a Tamron 18-270 mm lens. I rarely use anything else!Feedback
My advise to anyone else trying to achieve this look in their images, is PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE! The best time to shoot is early morning, or just before sunset. You will be rewarded with some of the most beautiful lighting situations. Study your subject, relax, and have fun! I'm sure no one started off doing photography as a "job". Go back to that time when it was more than that. Back to a time where you would eat, breath, and sleep photography. Compose those images in your head and have FUN doing it!
