I am a natural light photographer, so, inside shooting requires mid-morning to early afternoon lighting to capture a great image without using a high ISO. I had the setup directly in front of their patio doors and the sun was hidden behind a few homes giving me the perfect about of flight without flare.Equipment
I used a Canon t3i body with a 50mm lens.Inspiration
I love capturing newborns and this was one of my regular clients whom I had been photographing their son for 6 months at this point. I love dramatic lighting and my grandfather had just built me the beautiful crate you see pictured. The family is a bit more western and I knew they would love the crate! This opportunity gave me one of my most favorite shots and I couldn't imagine it looking any other way.Editing
I don't usually do a lot of post-processing and on this particular image I didn't have to do much of anything. I mostly sharpened a couple areas and boosted the contrast to give the photo a bit more darkness. In my camera bag

It's really all about the positioning of your background for natural lighting. You never want the sun directly on your clients face, it's always best to have it coming from the side. Make sure you have warm rooms (I bring heaters) for younger subjects (typically newborns to 6 months) so if they are nakes, they won't get cold. I love the simplicity of neutral colors - black and white. Adding a touch of color never hurts, but if you like black and white photos like I do, stick with neutral colors. That way they really pop whether in color or black and white.
