I was on my morning walk with my dog Watson. We have some beautiful walking paths around us in the Ottawa Valley (Canada). This particular path was the Chapman Mills conservation area which runs along the Rideau river.Time
This was the first frost of our season and everything had this beautiful frost covering. I had gotten up around 7am and thought this is going to be a great morning for photography.Lighting
It was a bit of a foggy morning so I used my speedlite with a diffuser to help bring out the frost coating.Equipment
This shot was taken with a Canon 7d mkii, Canon 100mm f2.8 macro lens and a Canon speedlite 430ex (with a diffuser) and a monopod.Inspiration
It was just an amazing morning! Everything had this magical frost coating. This was my first outing with my macro lens - I was just beyond excited!Editing
I usually try not to do to much post processing. This particular picture was mildly cropped and I adjusted the sharpness and contrast. In my camera bag
My Canon 7d mkii (love it!) I have a peak design slide camera strap, Canon 300mm f4 prime lens, Canon 100mm f2.8 macro. canon speedlite 430ex with a diffuser and a monopod.Feedback
The best piece of advise I ever got was to take pictures every day! For this particular picture I was looking to show how beautiful a weed can be. I played around with the angle of the flash so that it wasn't straight on harsh light. For frosty days you have to be out fairly early so the sun doesn't melt everything.
