Location
My husband and I took my daughter to a park one day, camera in hand-and near the end of the shoot, we hit "golden/magic hour". She started picking these little wildflowers, and here we are.Time
This was right before sunset, in the fall.Lighting
I'm a huge fan of back-lighting and lens flares. Add those with my favorite model in a beautiful park, and it's a dream come true.Equipment
Nikon d800, Nikon 85mm 1:1:8, and the sunInspiration
My daughter. She loves being outside and in front of my camera. She makes it easy. She is my absolute favorite thing to photograph! (If only my son would be as eager as she is to get in front of my lenses...)Editing
Not really. I try to stick with clean edits most of the time. A few tweaks here and there, but that's it.In my camera bag
My d800, Nikon 851:1:8, SB-700 speed light with triggers, reflectors, about 40 memory cards and about as many AA batteries (you can't ever have enough!), extra battery for the camera, color filters for the flash, and snacks :)Feedback
A lot of this was timing. We hit golden hour, with the light hitting right behind my daughter in that perfect "dreams are made of this" way, and I caught her in her own little moment. As for doing something similar-wait for that gorgeous lighting! No matter how hard you try, the natural sunset is some of the most gorgeous light you'll ever work with. Making sure you've mastered the different settings on your camera play a huge role too. Play with your angles so you can get some beautiful lens flares! Just a quick note: don't work facing that perfect lighting for too long! It is very dangerous-don't mess up your eyesight by looking into the sun too long!
