Location
This photo was taken in southern Colorado of a free roam horse that would visit my property often :)Time
This was taken in the early afternoon when I was doing some light hobby work around the property and the horse decided to pay me a visit.Lighting
The lighting in this photograph was natural lighting as the horse came out of the shadows.Equipment
The camera used for this was a Nikon D5300. No tripod or flash. Just me, the horse and natural light/shadows :)Inspiration
I consider nature/animal photography my forte; I've always been an animal lover and have found my happiness in nature. I want to show the beauty and emotion of animals, show people the depths of their souls and take a photograph that can hopefully spark a sentient connection between the viewer and the subject. In this photo I wanted to convey the feeling of stepping out, revealing one's self (if that makes any sense). I feel the title explains the feeling better than I can, it's titled "Emergence".Editing
For this particular photo there wasn't too much post processing involved. I made the shadowed area slightly darker to help clean up the photo a little bit. I left the horse and lighting completely natural. In my camera bag
In my camera backpack I include all nessasary cleaning equipment, my Nikon D5300, tripod, remote flash, lense hood, every extra lense that I can fit (macro etc) silicone body cover for my Nikon (1 camouflage and 1 black for nature and event photography), extra neck strap, and lens sleeves.Feedback
I would suggest first having a great subject. This horse had so much mystery and emotion that I couldn't pass up the photo opportunity. For me, animals make the best subjects. To some people they may seem expressionless, but to me they are more expressive than people in many aspects. For general advice, I would suggest natural lighting as it worked very well in this photo. Natural is always the best in my opinion. Also the mood, depending on what you want to convey to the viewer. This photo I wanted to embody the feeling of mystery stepping out of the shadows, revealing one's self. Hence the title "Emergence" :)
