Behind The Lens

Location

This is a portrait that I styled and shot in my home studio in Manchester. I am a self taught photographer and portraiture is one of my favourite fields of photography.

Time

It was taken later than I hoped as my model arrived with a young baby which needed looking after and after styling her hair and applying make up I was already quite shattered and we didn't take a lot of pictures that day but there is definitely quite a few that I am very proud of. It was taken around 4pm on a summer day.

Lighting

I used the natural light coming through the window. My model is sitting right next to the window on the right side.

Equipment

I used Canon EOS 6D with the 50mm lens.

Inspiration

There was a few reasons for taking this photo but I definitely love the fashion type of portraits and this was my try. I wanted to achieve the magical and magnetic charakter of the model.

Editing

I used lightroom to postprocess which was mainly softening the skin and sherpening the eyes.

In my camera bag

At the moment I am still using the Canon EOS 6D but am aiming to get a full frame camera (with bigger frame). My favourite lens is definitely 70-200 mm canon f/2.8 IS, I also use macro 100mm f/2.8 and 24mm f/1.4 plus the best of all good old 500mm f/1.4.

Feedback

Preparation and a vision of what you want to shoot is the key. And also on the day no kids running around would definitely be an advantage ;-)
