Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo at The Aga Khan Park around 9:00 p.m. The Aga Khan Park is in Toronto, Canada.

Time

It was night time, I saw a clear reflection of The Ismaili Centre in the infinite pool which is only 19 cm in height. I was amazed by how clearly the Ismaili Centre which is 20 meters in height was reflecting entirely in an infinite pool that is only 19 cm in its height. The base of the infinite pool is made of polished, black granite from China and it has a lifespan of approximately 100 years. The polished black granite has properties that enable this type of phenomenon to occur.

Lighting

It was a perfect, clear night and the moonlight was cascading on the Ismaili Centre Dome.

Equipment

I used my iPhone to take this picture. Nothing else was used.

Inspiration

The Aga Khan Park's landscape architecture is Vladimir Djurkovic. He is of a Lebanese and Serbian descent. He had entered a competition and won the competition to design The Aga Khan Park. After he had won the competition, His Highness The Aga Khan requested him to visit the Alhambra Garden, The Taj Mahal, The Al-Azhar Park in Cairo and The Humanyan Tombs. I was fortunate enough to be on the day the tour, was a tour offered by Mr. Djurkovic when The Aga Khan Park first opened, During his tour he explained us that after he had visited these places, he changed some parts of design to make The Aga Khan Park timeless. Just like parks and gardens he had visited, as is described earlier. The Aga Khan Park is on 6.8 hectares area of land and it encompasses two prominent buildings: The Aga Khan Museum, whose façade is made of white Brazilian Granite which is like a pure white and The Ismaili Centre Toronto is Delma Croatia which is like a honed, creamy beige limestone, very luminous, from Croatia . One has to experience The Aga Khan Park to experience how one's senses of smell, sight sound and touch are captivated while walking in The Aga Khan Park. The design of The Aga Khan Park creates a harmonious Islamic design accompanied by the sound of cascading water, the crunching of the gravel while walking on the pebble stones on the pathways, the fragrance from the Cyprus trees, thyme herbs, lavender and roses gently waft through garden and one's sight is amazed by the reflection of this phenomenal Ismaili Centre in the infinite pool that looks like a black mirror in the night from the reflection of the sky. Its just one of kind experience, one may wish to experience.

Editing

I may have cropped the image and used a filter.

In my camera bag

Normally, I just have my cell phone on me.

Feedback

Just walk in the garden and let your five senses guide you for the right time to take the picture.
