Behind The Lens

Location

My photo was taken in Antactica. The white continent.

Time

Every moment in Antactica it´s amazing, and the weather can change in seconds from a very sunny day to a windy and snowy day. I used to work in a cruise ship as a Photo Manager so we were doing and small adelie penguin viewing down the ship riding zodiacs. It was around noon time. It was a great day.

Lighting

Well in this kind of light you have to be very careful because everything it´s so white and bright. The weather is changing in seconds so the light is changing as well. But at that time was a little cloudy so it was a little bit easy to make the right set up in my camera so I could get all the whites of the ice and the different shapes of it, the penguin and the ship perfectly sharp. I tried to have a very fast Shutter speed because the penguin could move at any time so I used 1/800 the aperture I used was f/7 and ISO-100

This photo was shot with a canon 40D with a canon lens 16-35mm, from the zodiac

Inspiration

Since I been working and studying photography I got crazy about landscape and wildlife photo. And the moment we start going to Antarctica and i´ve started learning about the kind of animals that we were going to see I got so curious on learning about penguins, they are amazing animals so loyals, smart and funny. So when we were riding the zodiac I realized that this penguin start walking alone to the ship witch it was park in the ice. And he stood up in front of it like asking what do you want to the big ship. I don´t know thats what I imagine. But I just love the image of the penguin standing in front of the ship so curious.

Editing

Not really, I just crop a little bit and made the photo straight to the horizon , because taking the photo with the zodiac moving it´s kind of hard, it´s not so steady. so I have to make it straight.

In my camera bag

For landscape I usually take my big bagpack whit my two cameras Canon 5D Mark II and Canon 5D Mark III. My lenses 16-35mm, 24-70mm and my 70-200mm. Batteries, tripod, flash, a bag in case of rain.

Feedback

Well you haver to be patient because sometimes regulations are very strict so you can´t approach to the animals, but if you wait the got curious and come to you or they get used to you been there so you most wait. Another thing is that you have to be changing your set up of the camera all the time because the light and the weather it´s changing all the time so you most be alert and ready. Be very sensitive about the behavior of the animals they are great creatures.
