Behind The Lens

Location

The bridge is located next to one of the major highways in the Orange Free State in South Africa.

Time

It was taken at 1:30pm

Lighting

It was taken in full midday sunlight, which I think helped to get the contrast.

Equipment

i used a Conon 450D with a 18-55mm kit lense. Hand held, no flash

Inspiration

As a child growing up and through my young adult life I have driven past this bridge and always knew that one day I would stop and take a photograph. After many years and eventually taking up photography as a hobby that I stopped and took the photograph.

Editing

There was some post processing, converted it to black and white. Leveled the horizon. Cropped it in

In my camera bag

I have upgraded my camera to a 70D, and normally have a 10-24mm, 18-135mm and my favourite 50-250mm lense. If I am doing some wildlife I will take along my Sigma 150-500mm lense

Feedback

Get low to include some of the tracks and stones. If you see something that captures your eye, don't wait years to take the shot. I have been back to the bridge and it has subsequently been painted and has lost so much of the charm, so don't wait as the shot might not be there next time
