Amazing! This must have taken a long wait for the storm to materialize!!

Thanks for the kind comment! It was - for my area - a somewhat unusual thunderstorm without rain and for a change truly vertical lightnings :)

Location
This photo was taken on the "Ginkelse Hei" (heather) near my town Ede, Netherlands.Time
It was late at night, well at least for me :) Normally, here it rains a lot during lightning and lightning travels fast, but this time the rain stayed away from the one open spot on the heather: quite the opportunity to try one of my first captures of lightning without even getting wet!Lighting
Lightning is such a powerful thing to see (and hear). I just love the immense force it shows, setting the whole sky on light, eve for a fraction of a second. For this shot I used a longer exposure time, ending up with some impressive clouds I had not even seen before I looked at the shot itself.Equipment
This shot was taken using a Canon EOS 60D with the standard EF-S18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS, mounted on an Alta tripod.Inspiration
I never managed to catch a lightning before, so I just could not resist on trying again, especially since it appeared to be a little longer in duration and without too much rain.Editing
Post-processing has been limited to contrast-correction and noise reduction. After that, cropping the image and adding a little border around was all.In my camera bag
Lately, I carry my Canon EOS7D Mark II with EF 24-70L and EF 70-200L lenses. Additionally sometimes a Hähnel Capture remote trigger set and a Canon Speedlite 430EXII flash. Ah, and sometimes also a tiny tripod. Yeah, it can become a little heavy at times :)Feedback
Since this shot, I captured more lightning shots. For this, I found help in taking a little flashlight with to check where to put the tripod and to make some camera settings. Also very nice to have: hot coffee and either a raincoat or an umbrella (last one not very practical when adjusting the camera but better as nothing). For the rest, just patience and having fun! And: don't forget to watch some lightning yourself as well!
