Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo on my cell phone while standing in the middle of a barn in October. I was auditing a level 3 Flowtrition class. Snickers, the miniature donkey, was one of the animals the students worked with that day. Snickers had just finished receiving his Flow Session when I took his picture. The result of his session was obviously one very relaxed and happy Snickers!

Time

Right after a Flow session with each animal there is a moment when you can capture the gentle beauty of the animal. The gaze of the eyes are softened. The ears are relaxed. Often the donkey or horse is so relaxed that their mouth is open in a yawn.

Lighting

this was taken with natural sunlight filtering in through open windows in the barn.

Equipment

I took this photo on my cell phone while quickly trying to capture Snicker's expression before he shook his head and moved out of the natural light.

Inspiration

As a Certified Flowtrition Practitioner I know the importance of working with donkeys and horses as part of our training. We are trained to make the lightest of touches on the animal. These touches when applied in the right place, at the time, with the right amount of gentle pressure can have a tremendous effect relaxing the animal. While I audit this class I try to document the changes that happen with the animals' behavior and physical appearance. There is no placebo effect when working with animals. Once you have worked with the horses and donkeys you will never doubt the effectiveness of the Flowtrition technique. I take these pictures to capture those moments for the students taking the class. This pictures help them to remember this special day of connection with the donkeys and horses while training.

In my camera bag

This picture was taken on a Samsung Galaxy 5 cell phone. As an amateur photographer that is all I ever have with me. It always amazes me the quality of pictures one can capture just using their cell phone.

Feedback

Be in the moment. Be willing to stay open to the opportunities that present themselves. And take lots of photos of the same subject in the moment. You will be surprised by the gifts you will be given.
