Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken near Tillamook Bay in Meares Lake near Tillamook, Oregon.

Time

This was taken on 12/24/13 at 3:30 in the afternoon.

Lighting

I just loved the natural light, the blue in the sky reflecting in the water and the shadows on the stump.

Equipment

I used a Nikon 5200D with a telephoto, I just captured it with no settings. No tripod, no flash.

Inspiration

I look for the unusual and beautiful. It was ragged and jagged, like my life has been in the past. I guess I thought it was beautiful even though it had gone through so much. I think most people would pass by it, but the colors, the ripples, the water, the shading and colors inspired me to shoot it. I only took a few shots and this was my favorite.

Editing

The only thing I did was crop it to make it bigger nothing else.

In my camera bag

I have my telephoto (though I want a much larger one), a macro and a wide angle. Other than that a cloth for my lenses and an extra SDCard and batteries as well as a plug in charger for my car as well as one for a 110 outlet.

Feedback

Natural lighting does play a big part of capturing great shots. If you see something, pull over and walk back to get it. Don't drive by. Whatever it is caught your eye for a reason so stop, get your camera out and shoot it. If you are in your vehicle just make sure you are safely pulled off the road. You don't always get a second chance at whatever it was that caught your attention.
