Behind The Lens

Location

My wife and I rented a rustic cabin in the Hiawatha National Forest, in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The cabin was on McKeever Lake, and was situated to offer phenomenal sunrises.

Time

This was the standard sunrise view. As I recall, it was around 6:20am.

Lighting

Sunrise lighting. Wait long enough for some light, but not too long that it becomes daylight.

Equipment

This was shot with a Nikin D3200, standard 70-200 Nikon zoom lens.

Inspiration

We went camping to get some photo opportunities, and some hiking. We had never been there before, and were pleasantly surprised by the beautiful sunrise, right outside our cabin!

Editing

No, this is the raw photo.

In my camera bag

The D3200 broke in a fall on another camping trip. Now our bag has a Nikon D5600, Nikon lenses, a Sigma 70-300 lens, a 500mm telephoto lens, extra battery and charger, remote firing device, tripod, cleaning kit, notebook/pen, assorted filters, spare memory cards.

Feedback

Be a morning person! To prepare for sunrise photography, get up before dawn and be patient. I took 27 shots that morning. That shot was taken the second week of October, in northern Michigan. It can be cold - especially right before sunrise! Dress appropriately, so you are not uncomfortable and miserable.
