Location
I took this photo at home at the kitchen window. This is a bay window with a wide board and everyone, including kids, loves to sit there- chatting with other members in the family or just enjoying the view.Time
I guess it was early afternoon. The day was rainy but the sun was coming out from time to time.Lighting
It was natural light only. No flash or reflectors were used.Equipment
This was taken with a Sony A7 and a Samyang 85mm 1.4 lens. No other equipment was used.Inspiration
That day we found this kitten in the shed- all alone, crying, hungry, cold and dirty. After w few hours when his mother didn't show up we caught him and took him home. After feeding him and letting some time to know the house, my kids really wanted to give it w hug. I put both of them by that window and handled the kitten. My younger one was very delicate with him (later it turned out this is a lady cat :) ). She stayed with us and is a very loving and sweet cat right now.Editing
There was a lot of things lying on the board. I couldn't remove it when my kids were there without disturbing the situation. So after the shoot I took a photo of a clean window and combined both photos together. And as usual I darkened the edges, lighten up the face, sharpened, and did some dodging and burning. In my camera bag
I usually have my Sony A7 with three lenses: Samyang 85mm 1.4, Zeiss Sonnar 135mm 1.8 and Sony 50mm 1.5 and a Sony A mount to E mount adapter.Feedback
With kids timing is the key. Kids have moments when they are full of energy and moments when they sit quietly and focus on little things. You have to know they energy levels and use those for the photos. To capture then in the state of inner piece wait until they calm down. But move fast and take photos continuously- kids don't pose- you have to "catch" the right moment.
